END "BLUE DEATHS" PODCAST, SIMPLE CHOLERA OUTBREAKS AND PREVENTION By Adogo Chwanuh Adogo
Cholera is not just a disease of the past it remains a present and pressing threat, especially in vulnerable communities. It is often referred to as the “Blue Death” due to the severe dehydration it causes, cholera continues to expose the cracks in our water, sanitation, and hygiene systems.
As a Public Health student and advocate for Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), I took a deep dive into this issue not just through research, but through storytelling, education, and public engagement.
Cholera is caused by consuming contaminated water or food, often due to poor sanitation. But beyond the biology, cholera is deeply tied to inequality.
Where there is unsafe drinking water, poor waste disposal, limited health education. Cholera finds a way to survive.
This is why prevention is not just medical it is social, environmental, and political.
