HIV Awareness.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system. It destroys CD4 cells, which help fight off infections, making it harder for the body to stay healthy.

HIV is usually spread through bodily fluids, such as blood, semen, and breast milk side sex. When  left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a condition where the immune system is severely damaged.

 Your immune system is your body's defense against getting sick. It helps keep you healthy.
Your immune system is like a protector that:
- Keeps bad germs out
- Fights off sicknesses
- Helps you feel better when you are  ill or sick
It's like having a personal bodyguard that keeps you healthy!

With proper treatment, called antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV can be managed, and people with HIV can live long, healthy lives. Early testing and treatment are crucial in preventing the spread of HIV and managing its effects.

How HIV can be transmitted;
HIV is spread through:
1.  Blood / Sharp items: sharing needles or syringes contaminated with infected blood.
Sharing needles or syringes with someone who has HIV can spread the virus through:
  • Infected blood leftover in the needle or syringe
  • Blood getting into the needle or syringe from an infected person's skin
In this case it is crucial to use clean, sterile needles and syringes, and never share them with others.

2.  Mother to child: From mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

3. Blood Transfusions: Receiving contaminated blood from an infected donor.
4. Unprotective sex with an infected person.

HIV is NOT spread through:
- Casual touch
- Hugging
- Sharing food or drinks
- Coughing or sneezing
- Toilet seats or mosquitos

Possible ways to control the rate of spread of HIV:

General Precautions.
1. Avoid sharing needles: Use sterile needles and syringes for injections, tattoos, or piercings.

2. Use clean equipment: Ensure that any medical or cosmetic equipment you are using is properly sterilized.

3. Handle bodily fluids safely : Wear hands gloves when handling bodily fluids, such as blood or saliva.
4. Ensure proper disposal of medical waste or any Sharp items used.

Personal Precautions
1. Avoid sharing personal items: Don't share personal items, such as razors, toothbrushes, or nail clippers.
2. Properly clean and cover wounds to prevent exposure to bodily fluids ( Keep wounds clean and covered ).
3. Wash your hands frequently and regularly, especially after coming into contact with bodily fluids such as blood.
4. When you are infected, follow proper procedures, avoid unprotected sex and sharing of Sharp items.

Through sex;
Having unprotected sex with someone who has HIV can give you HIV. Using condoms can help prevent HIV. If you have unprotected sex with someone who has HIV, get medical help right away. You can take medicine to prevent HIV after being exposed. Get tested for HIV if you think you might have been exposed. If you have HIV, tell your sex partners so they can get tested. HIV can be treated with medicine. People with HIV can live long, healthy lives if they get treatment. Early treatment is very important.

HIV can be treated,  but not Cured.
